The clearinghouse on child abuse and neglect infor Essay Example For Students
The clearinghouse on child abuse and neglect infor Essay mation reports that One in four girls will be sexually abused before they turn 14 and one in three will be sexually abused before they turn 18. Boys arent in the clear either. They also reported that One in seven boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18. You ask How could this be happening? This is happening because child molesters are being let off too easy! In this speech I am going to convince you that we need tougher penalties on child molesters! The purpose of this speech is to inform you that sex offenders are getting away too easy. Sexual abuse has horrible effects on children. Children who have been sexually abused suffer from devastating psychological breakdown and sometimes death. The children develop mistrust and will have problems in their future relationships. Also sexual abuse makes sexual abusers. The Child Abuse Help Book says 82% of child molesters were molested when they were children. If you think it isnt a big problem and it wont affect you or someone you love then youre wrong. There are 300,000 to 500,000 reported every year in the united states and experts say for each case that is reported there are two more that arent. Why in Virginia Beach alone in 1993 the social services office counted 6,613 sexual abuse cases reported. The reason only a third of the cases are reported because most of the time the abuser is a friend or family member. In fact the book Child Abuse: an american epidemic says only 28% of child molestors are strangers. Most of the time the abuser is the money maker in the family and the child fears that if the molestor gets taken away that they will have nothing. If it is a friend or another family member they dont tell because they dont want to ruin the friendship or break up the family. Sexual abuse has several categories and although illegal throughout the united states penalties vary in different states. Social services saysRight now in Virginia for touching sexual abuse the offender can get 3-7 years with chance of parole and child molestors are on the top of the list to receive parole which can reduce that sentence to 2 years. They can even get as little as a year if they agree the go to rehabilitation for 3 years. Another form of Sexual Abuse is incest and in Virginia you can get as little as a $50 fine and/or 1 year in jail for it. Rehabilitation centers dont seem to have worked over all either. The Child Abuse Help Book says 56% of offenders who are caught for their first time will sexually abuse after being let out. A well respected official of the Oregon State Hospital, a primary treatment center for sex offenders, stated There are no cures in this business. The only thing we havent tried is magnum-therapy blowing there brains out with a bullet. he also said most child molesters. dont want to stop, since it is their only way to be sexually gratified. A 1992 study of 767 rapist and child molesters in Minnesota found those who completed psychiatric treatment were arrested more often for new crimes than those who didnt go through the program. I hope with these astounding facts Ive given you it has convinced you to write your local congress man and demand tougher penalties on molesters and to propose a bill which notifies a neighborhood when a convicted child molestor moves into their community. This will prevent many molestations because if you knew a molestor was living next door you wouldnt let your children play in front of the molestors house. Also if you suspect any child abuse going on anywhere call 1-800-552-7096. Thank for your time. .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee , .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee .postImageUrl , .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee , .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee:hover , .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee:visited , .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee:active { border:0!important; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee:active , .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4dd867bc0c82115937fadd225f69cfee:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Philosophy - The - Crito Essay .

Understanding the War Poetry of Wilfred Owen Essay Example
Understanding the War Poetry of Wilfred Owen Essay Much can be learned about the historic and human impact of WI by studying the literary output from the era. Wilfred Owen (1893-1918) is considered one of the greatest war poets in the English language. He wrote out of personal experience of the physical, moral and psychological trauma FWIW in a time when most war poetry was romanticists and used as propaganda. In his poems Dulcet et Decorum est. and Anthem for Doomed Youth Owen dispels the Idea that dying for ones country Is a bole or rewarding act and recognizes the futile deaths of his young comrades and the suffering and sadness of those left behind. However, it is difficult for the reader to derive any meaning or appreciation from these poems without an understanding of the life and times of the author and text. Knowledge of Owens life and military service provide insight Into his thoughts, emotions and motivation for writing his poetry. Owen served as a 2nd lieutenant In France. One of his traumatizing experiences Included spending several days In a bomb crater trapped with the mangled corpse of a fellow officer while badly enclosed. This information gives Owens poetry credibility and evokes a horrifying realization in the reader that these graphic descriptions of warfare are not fabricated. The poet masterfully uses first-person POP to bring the events to the audience n a personal level. In all my dreams, helpless before my sight, He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning. This literary technique, combined with the background information on Owens experiences, enhances the stark realism of the poem causing the reader to feel the emotions of the narrator of the poem. Owens Christian upbringing Is also evident In Anthem for Doomed Youth. Owen was raised as an Anglican of the evangelical school and was a devout believer In his youth. He also counted the Bible as one of the major influences on his poetry. This shows in Anthem in which he skillfully juxtaposes the glamour of trench warfare against the somber atmosphere of a church. These religious images: orisons, mockeries, prayers, bells, choirs, candles, holy glimmer, pall symbolism the sanctity of life. This, along with the futility of war, Is a recurring theme In Owens works. An understanding of the age in which a poem was written can reveal its purpose. For example, Owen wrote seeking to educate the populace of Britain of the tragedy and horror of war. This is because during the years of conflict, most war poetry was attrition and idealistic which heavily shaped the public perception of war as a glorious and honorable way to serve ones country.

Character Analysis Using Theory Of Personality Development Social Work Essays
Character Analysis Using Theory Of Personality Development Social Work Essays Character Analysis Using Theory Of Personality Development Social Work Essay Character Analysis Using Theory Of Personality Development Social Work Essay several people are fighting with personality issues. The theory by Freud has helped us to analyze an person s character and to be able to pull a decision refering the degree of development of the Id, self-importance and superego. My Experience During my internship at the general ward as a practicing nurse to be, I was able to see teamwork struggles. This experience played good during the conference, therefore enabling me to larn more from a practical attack. I was besides able to portion my experience with the other IP squad members. I besides learnt of import facets of IP communicating and working that are built-in to the success of IP coaction. These include, non utilizing slangs, listening whenever other squad members are speaking, oppugning premises sanely, advancing the rights and self-respect of IP squad members. There are certain footings that adult nurses will utilize which cause confusion and ambiguity, therefore doing others who assume the significance of slangs to error. On the other manus, I would besides larn to decide ethical issues within my IP squad. Certain ethical issues are bound to impact the IP coaction within my working squads. I would hence esteem other IP squad member s ethical standing and attack any indifference with a voice of ground in a command to drive sense into the squad member s apprehension. Indeed, most of the squad members agreed to the fact that favoritism was so a shared concern. During my internship, I watched a patient walk in with his girlfriend. It was apparent that from the start, the physician on call could non give effectual way and as if this was non plenty, the physician could non take a leading function and advice the girlfriend to quiet down. I believe as a hereafter grownup nurse, I would hold tackled this state of affairs with more humor. My first measure would hold been to take control of the state of affairs and give the patient options with the benefits of each. This would hold given more insight to the girlfriend and cut down the struggle. I would besides originate active communicating with the remainder of the grownup nurses for audience in privateness. Interprofessional instruction would hold enabled me to efficaciously originate communicating with my squad members, therefore taking control of the state of affairs in good clip. As an grownup nurse, every patient s status is of import since my nucleus value is to continue life. I have besides learnt the effectivity of working in partnership with the patients through hearing and reacting to their concerns. I have besides learnt that it would be of import to confer with with the patients sing their intervention and attention before get downing such. While reflecting this experience, I shall work closely with my squad members as an grownup nurse and invariably pass on with the relevant governments and IP squad members for quality wellness and societal attention bringing. I truly acknowledge that I would necessitate a compendious apprehension of teamwork and modern attacks towards wellness and societal solutions. As a hereafter grownup nurse, I will ever guarantee that I initiate effectual communicating with the remainder of my IP squad members so as to work together for the common good of the patients. The experience that I learnt was so utile as it would enable me to efficaciously go a successful grownup nurse who would stand out from the remainder. The person-centred attack was peculiarly imperative in guaranting that I am able to understand the generation of multi-disciplinary teamwork. I so acknowledge that issues associating to patient attention should be approached with interprofessional teamwork so that each medical practician offers advice in his or her country of professional cognition while guaranting that they work as a squad. My experience at the multi-disciplinary conference would enable me to go a successful grownup nurse who values teamwork and professional coaction. This conference has besides enabled me to hold a clear image of what medical professionals go through and what can be done to debar such challenges. I now feel adequately capable of tacking these challenges that my calling as an grownup nurse will supply. I have besides learnt to take into history the positions of other people when doing of import determinations. Indeed issues of race, gender, category and gender among others should non impact multi-disciplinary teamwork. Cultural and societal differences should non be construed as effectual barriers to IP teamwork. As a hereafter grownup nurse, the conference was a brainstorming session which expanded my experience. I was besides able to larn that certain general footings used by patients to mention to their unwellness may so do great confusion among professional wellness and societal attention practicians. These are referred to as stereotypes. In such a state of affairs, the wellness and societal professional practician should confer with the other members of his or her IP group or squad so as to come up with the proper reading therefore limit mistakes in the intervention of the patient s status. Synergy theoretical account of nursing supports this statement and calls for more audience in the intervention of the patient. The group treatment on IP instruction enabled me to visualise the world between theory and pattern. The patient-centred position was clearly illuminated by the patient s voice presentation. The exclusion of IP working has been seen in collaborative intervention. Decisions made by single inexperient physicians have been tragic. The instance of Victoria Climbie and Baby Peter can outdo illuminate this when Baby Tiffany passed on due to negligence. Findingss from this tragic state of affairs enabled physicians and nurses to set up a model that saw the bar of such state of affairss. It was agreed that IP squads would non be able to forestall the happening of every tragic incidence. Some would so be inevitable. Hence, I was able to larn the value of communicating and coaction in the physique up to my calling as an grownup nurse. Calla lily besides seems to be fighting with her gender. She is a sapphic but before the Christian resurgence she can non squeal her feelings to Rachel because of the society s positions on the topic but after the meeting everyone is experiencing like they can open up and that is when she openly tells Rachel of her feelings even though she is turned down. Decision In decision, we can state that the three elements that make up person s personality are really important in modeling the character of person and greatly act upon what person turns into when they are grownups. We should hence endeavor to assist the Id, self-importance and superego to turn good and the self-importance particularly should be nurtured to excel the other two in laterality, because as research has shown for a sound believing grownup, the self-importance should rule. Equally much as this may non be achieved in all people, those who hang around kids should actuate them so that they do non hold jobs in maturity in individuality or of self-esteem like was the instance of Rachel and Calla. Rachel s super-ego is something to think with though at times she seems to be non confident plenty to undertake the state of affairs at manus. She stands out as a she-wolf, ever prehending any chance that comes her manner.

Representations of difference in comic books Essay
Representations of difference in comic books - Essay Example In doing so, one considers the range of potential readers and therefore thinks about gender balance to at least reach all kinds of people. Of course profitability is a serious matter to cartoonists and writers because it is not just an expression of their artistic side but it is also their job that should be well-compensated. Minority representation is a social issue that becomes a major concern in comics. It does not only make readers critical of social issues going around them such as feminism, sexism, racism and others which have been the theme of many comic strips that made great noise in the industry. Sometimes, the most daring themes often succeed because of the popularity it can cause from the criticisms it gains from the public eye. Nevertheless, there are laws that often hold back artists in seriously considering their kinds of material otherwise they will be considered pornographic just as it was ruled in 1973 by the Supreme Court that a material is ââ¬Å"considered obscen e if they offended prevailing community standardsâ⬠. Another important detail to consider in representations is diversity of genre. When genres are determined, it would be easier for writers and readers to identify what is most read. As a medium, some of the benefits of representations are becoming the voice for minorities, discuss on social issues in a catchy manner and educate and encourage children to become more critical of social issues. Comics are interesting because of the cartoonish drawings that attract the attention of readers from children to adults. Therefore it is a medium that one can use to speak to a variety of readers. The images represented and captions written on comics can reflect the environmental circumstances and oftentimes call the attention of readers of different ages who have diverse opinions as shown in ââ¬Å"Say it Loudâ⬠. The representations became the voice of Lesbians (Bechdel), racial minorities (Coleman) and feminists (Farmer & Robbins). Although there have been various reactions from readers, there have been a lot who applauded the works of cartoonists who had the courage to speak for the ones they represented. The limitations of representations are interconnected. As mentioned earlier, writers and cartoonists are concerned about gender balance, minority representations and diversity of genre which often limit their decisions. In addition, technological advancements have a great effect on the products because of the use of television and computers which draw the attention of potential readers. There are diverse products that cater to diverse audience which results to a low percentage of possible comic readers. Therefore, the probability is the fear of many cartoonists, that when one starts small, it might stay small (McCloud). There have been tensions that arose among readers and writers about visibility and assimilation. For the artists, perhaps their objective was to create a critical mind in their readers with r epresentations that would appeal to their audiences. However, they have received various reactions. Some enjoyed comic strips while others were able to relate to them because they find that it is their very life that is being represented. Some simply acknowledged the genius of the artists but some had violent reactions. One of the readers of Aaron McGrouderââ¬â¢s is quoted to have said his comic strips are teaching children to become racists. The reader claims to understand the objective of the comic strips for the adult audience but
